John Wigglesworth completed his BA degree in philosophy at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and his PhD degree in philosophy at the Graduate Center, City University of New York. Prior to joining the MCMP as a postdoctoral researcher, he was a visiting lecturer and research fellow at the London School of Economics, as well as a visiting research fellow at the Institute of Philosophy, University of London.
John’s research interests are in the philosophy of mathematics (mathematical structuralism, modality in mathematics), the philosophy of logic (logical consequence, modal logic, structuralist approaches to logic), and metaphysics (the metaphysics of modality, metaphysical grounding and dependence). At the MCMP, he is working on an ANR-DFG funded project Mathematics: Objectivity by respresentation.
Since 2014, John has been involved with organising a series of conferences on the foundations of mathematics. The series, Symposia on the Foundations of Mathematics (SotFoM), has had installments in Vienna and London. SotFoM 3 will take place in Vienna in September 2015, and additional future events are in preparation.
As a PhD student, John received several competitive fellowships and grants, including the Chancellor’s Fellowship and a Doctoral Student Research Grant.
