Title:
Empirical Evidence
Abstract:
The heart of empiricism is the necessity of experience for learning about the world. But what does this mean in the context of scientific inquiry? With respect to what should our scientific theories be empirically adequate? In this talk, I present an account of empirical evidence that explains what our theorizing is accountable to, and what makes it distinctively empirical. In addition, I discuss the relationship between this characterization of empirical evidence and the notion of ‘observation’ in the epistemology of science.
