Reconciling Evidential and Causal Decision Theory

If in a decision problem states depend evidentially but not causally on acts, deliberation can generate information about the utility consequences of acts. In such a situation, a rational deliberator will typically learn more about her own attitudes during deliberation. In this talk I study deliberation in the context of evidential and causal decision theory. I am going to show that in many natural cases of Newcomb-style problems it leads to a reconciliation between the two decision theories. Deliberation also sheds light on the nature of those cases where such a reconciliation seems out of reach.
