Arriving and Living in Munich

Preparing your stay in Munich

The LMU's International Office is there to help you prepare for your arrival in Munich and registration at the LMU. In particular, they organize a "Welcome Day" each year, where they give information about how to register and access University facilities (libraries, wireless internet on campus and sport). It is also a good opportunity to meet fellow students.

Finding Accommodation

Housing in Munich is relatively expensive compared with other German cities. To help you in your search you can look at the following:

  1. Studentenwerk Housing Referral Service:
The Studentenwerk München is closely connected to all universities in Munich and runs the canteens etc. They provide a list of private and dorm rooms and might offer some practical help.
  2. One option to find affordable accommodation is to look for shared accommodation (called "WG" in German, for "Wohngemeinschaft"). There are two good resources for that:
On both websites you can place a "search" ad, specifying who you are and what you are looking for.
  3. The IBZ Munich (the academic international congress center) offers accommodation for short term stays, for instance while you are looking for more permanent accommodation.
