Title:
Consciousness, Reality and Fundamentality
Abstract:
Starting with an inconsistent triad {a. Consciousness is real; b. Consciousness is not fundamental; c. Something is real iff it is fundamental} and some of its paraphrases, I consider the type of arguments that can be constructed by such sets of sentences and compare them with other proposals in the philosophy of mind. I proceed then to an explication of "fundamental" and discuss especially reasons in favour of and against sentence (c). Finally, I present an interpretation according to which non-fundamental entities are necessarily real without consciousness-functions being involved in this state of affairs.
