Postdoctoral and Doctoral Positions at the MCMP (The Philosophy of Pharmacology)

The Munich Center for Mathematical Philosophy and the Chair of Philosophy of Science at the Faculty of Philosophy, Philosophy of Science and Study of Religion at LMU Munich seek applications for the following positions in the context of Dr. Barbara Osimani´s ERC Starting Grant project “The Philosophy of Pharmacology” (subject to final approval by the European Research Council).
1. Two Postdoctoral Positions
Deadline: May 7, 2015
Starting date: October 1, 2015 (or later)
Candidates are expected to conduct research on the above-mentioned research project. A background in at least one of the following fields would be helpful: philosophy of statistics, general philosophy of science (esp. causality), philosophy of pharmacology. Applications from medical doctors, pharmacologists and epidemiologists/statisticians with expertise in methodological and epistemological issues are also welcome. The positions are for three years. The appointment will be made within the German TV-L E 13 salary scheme. The starting date is October 1, 2015, but a later starting date is also possible. (Please let us know if you wish to start at a later date.) There is no obligation to teach, but appointees are encouraged to teach two courses per year. The successful candidate is also expected to take on some management tasks. She or he will have a PhD by October 1, 2015.

2. One Doctoral Position (part-time 50%)
Deadline: May 7, 2015
Starting date: October 1, 2015 (or later)
Candidates are expected to conduct research on the above-mentioned research project. A background in at least one of the following fields would be helpful: philosophy of statistics, general philosophy of science (esp. causality), philosophy of pharmacology, computational biology (complex systems). The position is for three years. The appointment will be made within the German 50% TV-L E 13 salary scheme. The starting date is October 1, 2015, but a later starting date is also possible. (Please let us know if you wish to start at a later date.) There is no obligation to teach, but appointees are encouraged to teach two courses per year. The successful candidate is also expected to take on some management tasks. She or he will have a masters degree in philosophy or computational biology/bioinformatics by October 1, 2015.

The MCMP hosts a vibrant research community of faculty, postdoctoral fellows, doctoral fellows, master students, and visiting fellows. It organizes at least two weekly colloquia and a weekly internal work in-progress seminar, as well as various other activities such as workshops, conferences, summer schools, and reading groups. Several of our research projects are conducted in collaboration with scientists. The successful candidates will partake in all of MCMP's academic activities and enjoy its administrative facilities and financial support. The official language at the MCMP is English and fluency in German is not mandatory.
